there she stands…

oak leafTHERE she stands,

regal and sturdy,

her leaves resplendent,

intact in a yard,

raked, mowed and

buttoned down for the

inclement weather

she is aflush in happiness,

no need for botox,

eye springs,

or cellulite salve,

standing strong… breaking the wind,

for those younger plants at her feet,

she will be ready when the frosting

of snow dresses her,

the pruning shears will wait

until spring,

for she is a Proverbs 31 gal,

Regal Oak Leaf Hydrangea,

queen of this season.

There are many things to aspire to as women in Proverbs 31…but this verse is brought to mind today as I write.

When she speaks she has something worthwhile to say,
and she always says it kindly. (MSG translation)

  1. Proverbs 31 was read at my grandmother’s funeral. She so fit the description.
Thought this verse might fit your picture also!
Prov 31:21: She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. KJV

  2. Wowza, what a wonderful and beautiful poem! I love the description of the tree being “regal”. And I also love the image of her “breaking the wind for the younger plants at her feet.”

Beautiful. And the addition of the reference to the Proverb was a nice surprise.

I'd love to hear your thoughts...
